Learn to Fish in a Day | 6 hours

This class combines our popular Intro to Fly Fishing and Basic Casting half-day lessons. It’s our most concentrated class for learning how to fly fish in a single day with no previous experience. The morning begins with learning what a “fly” is and how it imitates the food trout eat. Observe examples of different kinds of flies and how to “match the hatch” to select the right fly. In a hands-on exercise, learn how the casting stroke delivers the fly to the fish. Finally, experience the magic of fly fishing by catching (and releasing) your very first trout on a fly rod – entirely on your own! In the afternoon we’ll tackle basic fly casting, where you’ll learn step-by-step how to cast a fly line. Begin by observing the equipment and see how each component works. Learn the principles and mechanics of the casting stroke and how to make your first two presentation casts. In a series of hands-on exercises, you’ll practice each step of these casts so you can present your fly to the right spot. Finally, we’ll put it all together to practice making your cast in our teaching pond to hook, play, land and gently release a rainbow trout.
